Raised in Bakersfield, California, shaped by Southern gospel and his mother's Nat King Cole record collection — to whom he would later pay tribute with the album Nat King Cole & Me (2017) — the man in the cap began singing in small San Diego jazz clubs while studying on a football scholarship, before leaving it all behind for New York and music.
His breakthrough came with Liquid Spirit (2013), which sold over a million copies — unheard of for a jazz record — and earned him his first Grammy Award. Take Me To The Alley (2016) brought a second Grammy and cemented his now uncontested status as the most soulful voice of his generation.

Still as prolific and inspired as ever, he lent his voice to Disney's latest Christmas campaign, released a new single with Moby, and has just received another Grammy nomination.
